Reruns are good for one thing…

… being nostalgic.

Today I caught a Season One episode of two of my all-time favourite shows on Star World: Home Improvement and Ally McBeal.

Seeing a young Tim Allen is one thing, and gawking at a pre-teen Jonathan Taylor Thomas is another, but the highlight of that episode had to be a pre-boob job Pamela Denise Anderson. Whoa. Kinda made me miss the blatant machismo of Tim Allen in all his “Tool Time” glory. I always thought the show suffered from having his sexist, chauvinistic lines being moderated in later seasons.

Still, a family comedy is just that… hardly thought-provoking, barely memorable.

Ally McBeal, now that’s a show I’m proud to be a fan of. We’re talking post-Ooga Chaka baby, pre-Ling Woo, right-smack-in-the-middle-of Ally, Billy and Georgia love triangle… Talk about bringing back memories. No silly romances, no Jon Bon Jovi, no James Marsden…. just plain old wacko Ally dealing with her ex-boyfriend, his wife and a spear-wielding dream baby.

Now that, is classic.

Oh, and Dina Meyer (Star Trek: Nemesis, Starship Troopers) guest starred! It doesn’t get better than that.

Bringing back the baby was a bad idea tho. Jumping the shark and all that…

Shark jumping is the new Emmy bait.
