I can’t believe April’s out.

Some of you may remember that I was a huge fan of the original season of America’s Next Top Model.

Well, Season 2 is coming to a close, with only 3 contestants left. I have no problem with these 3 contestants – as runner-ups. I felt the one eliminated last night should have been the winner of the competition.

April Wilkner – in my mind, the only one who could be a Top Model.

The 1/2 Japanese, 1/2 European (Irish, Scottish, Germanic and Welsh) accounts executive from Miami Beach was poised, intelligent and a quick study. Having had zero modelling experience before the show, it was amazing she lasted so long, and yet, hardly surprising.

April’s flaw, or at least the one the judges kept harping on, was her tendency to over-analyse everything. Flaw? Pffft. I think that’s exactly what models need to do. They need to stop being classified as bimbotic airheads and start showing how smart they truly are – if at all.

Her flaw should have been April’s strength. Instead, the judges kept on resisting this new breed of model and eventually eliminated her.

Pity.

AngelYou are one of the few out there whose wings are truly ANGELIC.
Selfless, powerful, and divine, you are one blessed with a certain cosmic grace. You are unequalled in peacefulness, love, and beauty.
As a Being of Light your wings are massive and a soft white or silver.
Countless feathers grace them and radiate the light within you for all the world to see.
You are a defender, protector, and caretaker.
Comforter of the weak and forgiver of the wrong, chances are you are taken advantage of once in awhile, maybe quite often.
But your innocence and wisdom sees the good in everyone and so this mistreatment does not make you colder.
Merciful to the extreme, you will try to help misguided souls find themselves and peace.
However not all Angelics allow themselves to be gotten the better of – the Seraphim for example will be driven to fighting for the sake of Justice and protection of those less powerful.
Congratulations – and don’t ever change – the world needs more people like you.

Reruns are good for one thing…

… being nostalgic.

Today I caught a Season One episode of two of my all-time favourite shows on Star World: Home Improvement and Ally McBeal.

Seeing a young Tim Allen is one thing, and gawking at a pre-teen Jonathan Taylor Thomas is another, but the highlight of that episode had to be a pre-boob job Pamela Denise Anderson. Whoa. Kinda made me miss the blatant machismo of Tim Allen in all his “Tool Time” glory. I always thought the show suffered from having his sexist, chauvinistic lines being moderated in later seasons.

Still, a family comedy is just that… hardly thought-provoking, barely memorable.

Ally McBeal, now that’s a show I’m proud to be a fan of. We’re talking post-Ooga Chaka baby, pre-Ling Woo, right-smack-in-the-middle-of Ally, Billy and Georgia love triangle… Talk about bringing back memories. No silly romances, no Jon Bon Jovi, no James Marsden…. just plain old wacko Ally dealing with her ex-boyfriend, his wife and a spear-wielding dream baby.

Now that, is classic.

Oh, and Dina Meyer (Star Trek: Nemesis, Starship Troopers) guest starred! It doesn’t get better than that.

RIP James Kennedy

A friend of a friend sent this to him, who then forwarded it to us.

“I just got news that Redemptorist brother James Kennedy died of a heart attack this morning. He was to have been ordained next year. Please pray for all seminarians dead and alive!

The ones alive are having their exams next week.”

The humour in the words above are painful, because of what James meant to many of us in Holy Family.

I never knew James in person while I was a part of Salt and Light, but he and Sylvester (then a Redemptorist novice as well) were constantly mentioned and treated as SAL members themselves. Their birthdays were remembered and SAL constantly kept them in the loop of things.

I finally got a chance to meet the man himself this year at the Transitus of St. Francis, and it was good to put name to face at last. He was everything I imagined – and I could see why he had such an impact on SAL. He was looking forward to his ordination as a priest next year.

And now… this.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

What’s worse than failing 2 Math papers?

Failing 2 Math papers a SECOND time.

I usually hate admitting that I probably didn’t do well for an exam paper, because usually, that’s because I didn’t put enough effort into studying for the module. Now, while that’s usually true, it sure doesn’t seem to be case for Math.

I like Math. I really do. In fact, I like it because I used to find it ridiculously easy. It was always more of manipulating the variables to suit your needs than anything else. That part hasn’t changed. It’s the amount of formulas I have to memorise that has.

I don’t plan to have to take Math papers all my life. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like I have much of a choice at the moment.
