Friday, 31st January 2003Thursday, 30th January 2003I’m Four Years Old Check out Adam Sandler (yes, of all those stupid movies fame) and his musical album What’s Your Name? today. Just don’t buy it. Wednesday, 29th January 2003Firestarter There is nothing that fear or hope does not make men believe. — Marquis de Vauvenargues - “Reflections and Maxims” Tuesday, 28th January 2003Temporary Inanity Check it out here at: http://ti.three-thirteen.com/ You know, I’ve always been amazed by those with the foresight to name something before they set down to creating it. Kakita’s one of those people. When we first began our Three-Thirteen.com project mid-2002, Kakita was the only one with a proper name for his site. Whether he was playing around with the name for the longest time before, I don’t know. But he knew what he wanted on his site and he strived hard to achieve that goal. After countless alterations and one extreme revamp, Temporary Inanity has found peace with its creator once again. Don’t miss out on one of our nation’s future greats, in the genesis of his art. Visit his site today. In other news, Three-Thirteen.com is back on track. We’ve taken a month long hiatus (which still saw kakita and direcow working, I admit) but today, page 13 of the webcomic Sound of Silence will be presented for the approval of our long-suffering readers. I hope it encourages people to read the comic from the beginning. Oh, and if you haven’t already, check out The Kry and Reliant K. I highly recommend their music. Friday, 24th January 2003Iris - Goo Goo Dolls And I’d give up forever to touch you And I don’t want the world to see me And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming And I don’t want the world to see me And I don’t want the world to see me And I don’t want the world to see me I just want you to know who I am The first song I heard today. Boy does it make you feel good. Urban legend has it that frontman Johnny Rzeznik was so inspired by one of the scenes in the Meg Ryan movie City of Angels that he penned this song immediately after the movie ended and finished it in an hour. The scene in question is when Seth, played by the very inconsistent Nicolas Cage, is forced to make a choice between his immortality and his love for the very mortal Maggie Rice (Ryan). Guess what? It’s my favourite scene too. And the next two songs? Zephyre Song by Red Hot Chilli Peppers and No Good For Me by The Corrs! If this continues, life today is going to be good. Wednesday, 22nd January 2003Ever wanted to know everything? Now you can. Check out Everything2. It’s amazing. Oh, and I’m a convert to the guitar god that is Yngwie Malmsteen. Amazing talent that is hard not to appreciate. Monday, 20th January 2003War Machines Running down a sandy knoll, the hot Mediterranean weather beating down on your back as you lug yourself and your StG rifle through bullets and dead bodies. On your right, Panzers roll up and down the undulating land, while on your left, your platoon’s anti-tank weapons fire down on the British M7 “Priest” Howitzers. Welcome to North Africa. Welcome to Operation Battleaxe. Welcome to the year 1942. Battlefield 1942 is an amazingly intricate game of massive proportions. You can choose to play the Allied forces of the UK, USA and Russia, or the Axis powers of Germany and Japan. Maps are well-researched and extremely detailed, ranging to a unprecedented 4 kilometres in length. You can choose to play a sniper scout, rifleman, anti-tank, medic or demolition engineer. You can pilot any vehicle, from the APC and the light tank to the Japanese aircraft carriers and the infamous Zero fighters. The possibilities are endless and this game looks to be the smash hit of the decade. This game reminded me how much I love the fighting part of war. The casualties are high, and in real life, every one of those men killed was a son or maybe even a father. Yet I charged into them without a worry… because naturally, I still know I’m in a computer game. But the cathartic experience was one of a kind. I haven’t felt this good about gunning down an enemy since I first played Counter-Strike in 1999. |
