Contest of Champions

Contest of Champions claims to be the pioneer of all company-wide crossovers for comic book heroes. It does indeed feel like the crossovers of old, such as the All-Winners Squad (for Marvel) and the Justice League/Justice Society (for DC). It has poor characterization, and great fighting scenes. It rocks.

Bought for $28.99 at Kinokuniya. Last copy, good condition.

I have totally forgotten what I wanted to post today. Geez. Looking back on the week, it could either be:

1) Man Utd – 1, WBA – 0
2) Leeds – 3, Man City – 0
3) Popiah parties
4) Avalon
5) The original Contest of Champions
6) Fallout 2

I dunno. I’ll think about it soon enough.

I’ve decided… my homepage is officially dead. *sob*

Nah… I’ll find a way to resurrect THoR, hopefully in time for our August 10th debut of Three-Thirteen.

You know, it’s a really amazing feeling seeing your creation come to life thanks to the efforts of others. Not so much the way Tan Hwee Hwee saw her characters being played by flesh-and-blood thespians on the theatre adaptation of her second novel, Mammon Inc., but in a more surreal sense. Check out the webpage to see what I mean. They’re my creations, two of the three characters from the Enigmas (see earlier blog), drawn by Kakita and produced by Direcow.

Why does seeing your creation give you this sense of accomplishment? I wouldn’t be able to say. It’s a new feeling for me. I’ve played many simulation games before, The Sims, being the most recent, but nothing at all can prepare you to see Ben Howls-In-Silence and Lydia Long take shape. Kakita gives them very concise looks, and pays attention to the slight details in the characters. For him, every pencil mark, every resultant ink line, plays an important role in the composition. Direcow augments the already well drawn picture with a fusion of computer graphic knowledge and sheer creativity. Although seemingly simple, he adds depth to the character through a clever use of shadows and “aura”s. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to work with these two artists.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of my life. heh.

Today I did something I normally would not even dream of. As a favour to my Da Jie, I brought a bouquet of three sunflowers into my workplace, and handed it to a guy she really wanted to embarrass. All well and good, except for the fact that I work in a camp that trains our country’s elite troops and where machismo runs high. Showing up there with a bright yellow bunch of sunflowers (not to mention the baby’s breath and all the other fringe flowers) was a feat in itself, and fortunately, the victim of this whole prank was willing to meet me at 7am this morning. I cannot, for the life of me, imagine what it would look like if I had given him the flowers in the cookhouse at lunch.

Amazingly, part 1 of the whole “operation” (she calls it Operation: Rotten Cabbage, a play on his nickname) went pretty smoothly. I just hope she doesn’t consider my success an opportunity to use me again… *shudders*
